Terraced Patio, Merton
Our client lives in Merton, South London. His large, sunny back garden included a terraced patio that had seen better days, so he got in touch to discuss an improved and extended patio that would serve the family better.
With several doors from the house opening onto the terraced patio, we could see immediately how important the space is for the family and how it bridges the gap between the house and the impressive outside space. Whilst functional, the existing patio was worn and a little small in relation to the house itself. We suggested extending the terraced area and using a more contemporary material – and our client chose Indian Sandstone with a contrasting red brick to really lift the outside space.
Once the new area and material were agreed, we could begin work. Our first job was to carefully lift and remove the existing paving slabs. We then marked out the new terraced patio and paths, before laying hardcore over the entire area to ensure good drainage, a level surface, and a seamless transition between the older and new parts of the terrace.
Once the base was completed, we could then build up the terrace with red brick and lay the pale grey Indian sandstone paving slabs.
Our client is delighted with the large and improved terraced patio, especially the way the grey Indian sandstone and red brick complements the white rendering and red brickwork of the house.
