Resin Bound Gravel Drive Wimbledon
Christine lives in a much extended bungalow in Wimbledon. Her old gravel driveway and path was unkept and spilled onto her lawn, and the bushes to the side of her house offered little in the way of privacy from the public pathway that runs there.
The house is set a long way back from the road, and the driveway is a big feature. She wanted something sleek, tidy and low maintenance that would complement the house and garden, so she gave us a call and Joseph went out to see her to discuss some ideas.
She decided to keep most the lawned area to the side, and we agreed to widen and raise the driveway area, making for an even surface for parking and driving. Keeping with the low maintenance theme, she chose 2 metre composite wood fencing to separate the garden from the public pathway.
We began by digging out the old driveway and a deep bank for the installation of the fence. The front garden was sloped compared to the adjacent alleyway, so it was a priority for us that the fence not only remained level but also looked neat considering the gradient. Once the fencing was in place we were able to lay down the brick edging to separate the lawn from the path and driveway.
Once the driveway area been raised and levelled, we added new drain covers and compacted hardcore to ensure a solid, permeable base for the tarmac overlay and final layer of resin bound gravel. When the super-smooth top layer of resin had set, we laid new turf to blend with the existing grass of the front garden.
Christine is so pleased that the new resin bound gravel drive stays mud and puddle-free, and won’t need more than the occasional jet wash to keep it looking fantastic.
