Block Driveway, New Malden
Our client lives in New Malden in the London borough of Merton. The paved driveway at the front of his home was beginning to look tired and worn, so he called us to discuss a new block driveway.
We appraised the existing driveway during our free consultation visit, and our client explained how the uneven paving slabs were looking past their best, becoming difficult to drive over in places, and were a trip hazard for the family. Cracks in the cement were allowing weeds to grow through, making this smart south London home look unkempt and tired, despite the best efforts by the client to maintain his home.
We suggested that a block driveway would be the most elegant solution, looking smart while being low maintenance and able to withstand regular use by several vehicles. There was also a manhole cover on the driveway, and the new finish would need to ensure this was accessible, but not detract from the overall look.
Our first job was to break up and lift the existing paving and remove it completely from the site, ready for laying the new hard core and sub base over the entire area. This stage is essential to get right as it ensures the driveway is level, is robust enough for constant vehicle use, and meets drainage regulations.
Once the base was ready, we laid the block paving, complete with edge stones and a contrasting pattern in the centre of the driveway to add interest. The manhole cover was also finished with block paving to seamlessly blend with the rest of the driveway.
Our New Malden client is very happy with his smart, new driveway and especially pleased with how much it has improved the appearance of the front of his house.
